Former ROCK Player Recognized with BCJALL Award
DUNBAR RECOGNIZED WITH BCJALL AWARD

The BCJALL handed out the 2023 post season awards on Thursday.
Former ROCK Lacrosse player Jacob Dunbar (2001) of the Nanaimo Timbermen was picked as a co-winner of the Outstanding Achievement award.
The Bob Reid Memorial Award for Outstanding Achievement is awarded to the individual who contributed the most to his team by his outstanding achievement on the floor during the season, and this year’s the award is shared between Jacob Dunbar of the Nanaimo Timbermen and Thomas Vela of the Burnaby Lakers.
Teams nominated a player from their own team in each category, and then had the opportunity to vote on the nominees, casting a vote for a player, coach, or executive from another team.
The Executive of the Year is awarded to an individual for dedicated volunteer work on behalf of a team or the league and is given this year to Deb Heard from the Burnaby Lakers. The Doug Hazelwood Memorial Trophy for Coach of the Year is awarded to a coach who instilled good sportsmanship and brought out talent and fair play from their team, and this year’s winner is the coaching team from the Langley Thunder of Adam Smith, Kevin Reid, Connor Frost, Keiffer Widen, and Kyle Mooney.
The Keith McEachren Trophy for Most Sportsmanlike Player is awarded to the player who has bee judged both for their ability and sense of fair and clean play, and this year goes to Silas Richmond from the Delta Islanders.
The Al Boles Memorial Trophy for Most Inspirational Player is awarded to the player demonstrates ability and leadership, and is an inspiration to his fellow teammates and management on and off the floor. The winner of this year’s award is Matt Abbott from the Langley Thunder.
The John Urban Award for Graduating Player should have combined ability, sportsmanship, and being an all-around contributor to the continued growth of this club, his contribution to the league, and to minor lacrosse. The award this year goes to Kyle Brunsch of the Langley Thunder.
The Reginald “Pop” Phillips Memorial award for Best Defensive Player is given to a player based on their defensive skills, ability, and good sportsmanship, and is awarded this year to Brayden Laity of the Port Coquitlam Saints.
The Marcolis Gilson Award for Rookie of the Year is given to a player in their first full year in the league and who demonstrates outstanding ability and potential; this year’s winner is Adam Bland from the Victoria Shamrocks.
The Henry “Del” Delmonico Trophy for the Most Valuable Player is given to the player judged to be most valuable to this team in gaining position for the playoffs, and who is a credit to the league by combining ability with good sportsmanship. The league’s Most Valuable Player this year is Patrick Dodds from the Victoria Shamrocks.
Finally, the league’s 2022 All-Stars as voted by the teams, starting with the goaltender, and followed by five runners:
